British Embassy Job Vacancy


The British Embassy Visa Section currently has 1 locally engaged ECO vacancy.  For operational reasons preference would be given to any successful candidate who has already been trained and worked as an ECO. However, training may be provided if necessary.  The successful applicant will also need to pass (or have passed) the necessary internal security clearances and residence requirements before starting work.  Applicants must have a British Passport.  This opportunity may particularly appeal to you if you would like to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment as part of a dynamic team of people committed to achieving clear service delivery goals.  There may be further short term vacancies in the future.

The British Embassy’s UK Border Agency (UKBA) Visa Section is a busy section, dealing with all categories of visa applications for travel to the UK, Overseas Territories and some Commonwealth countries.  It is staffed by both UK and locally engaged personnel.  UKBA processes visa applications in accordance with British Government requirements - our aim is to provide a high level of service to all visa applicants.

We need someone who is accurate, efficient, reliable, self-motivated and a proven team-worker.  The successful candidates will be required to start as soon as possible and ideally on 1 March 2012.  There are two temporary positions available for Entry Clearance Assistant work during the busy summer travel season for six months.  A reference will be provided for satisfactory performance at the end of the period.


CLOSE PROTECTION DRIVER
(1-year fixed-term contract)
Responsibilities :

  • The CP team driver is responsible for making sure that Embassy staff are able to travel on all mobile moves between locations in a safely controlled and secure manner. He/she is also responsible for maintaining convoy discipline, observing and executing the close protection driving techniques on the road.


Main Duties :

  • Ensure and maintain the roadworthiness and cleanliness of the vehicle
  • Assist in planning, decision-making, risk and threat analysis/recognition for routes
  • Apply situation specific driving of the vehicle for varying weather and road conditions
  • Responsible for assisting in surveillance detection and the implementation of counter drills
  • Identify potential pre-incident indicators and choke points on the route
  • Implement defensive driving drills and position the vehicle appropriately in an emergency
  • Prepare and submit route reconnaissance reports as well as vehicle and equipment report sheets


Requirements:

  • Possess a valid B1 driving licence with at least 5 years experience of defensive driving techniques in armoured vehicles
  • Strong understanding of local driving laws and regulations, as well as local city roads and surrounding areas
  • Good anticipation, positional sense and spatial awareness to make for a safer all-round driver 
  • Competence in the use of vehicle tow-ropes, fire-extinguishers and other break-down tools and equipment
  • First aid trained and familiar with medical equipment in case of an emergency
  • Proficient in English language and Bahasa Indonesia
  • Physically fit with excellent eyesight
  • Flexible with ability to work independently with good time management skills
  • Willing to work out-of-office hours
  • Willing to start employment on a 1-year fixed term contract, with a possibility of extension



RESEARCH ANALYST (ASEAN)
(1 year contract)
Main Duties :

  • Evaluate the institutional development of ASEAN and related international organisations and the relationships between them
  • Provide analysis on the long and short-term policy objectives of the ASEAN Secretariat and Member States, regarding regional issues and relationships with international partners
  • Provide recommendations for UK action on regional political and security developments and support for increasing regional integration.  Advise on projects under the Embassy’s ASEAN Programme Fund
  • Co-ordinate analysis of cross-border issues with other British Embassies in the ASEAN region
  • Maintain an excellent network of senior level contacts across governments, politics, academia, civil society, business and think-tanks
  • Provide high quality briefings to senior UK diplomats and other visiting VIPs
  • Handle other tasks or functions within the wider ASEAN team as required


Requirements:

  • At least have 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in an international organisation
  • A minimum of Bachelor Degree in Social/ Political studies, or a related major would be advantageous
  • Strong understanding of South-East Asian political and security issues
  • An understanding of international relations and familiarity with the UK and/or EU would be an advantage
  • Strong English and Indonesian language skills, both written and spoken
  • Strong IT skills, demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Flexibility, resilience under pressure and decisiveness with a proven track record of delivering results to a high standard within tight deadlines 
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong customer focus
  • Be a team player
  • Willing to start the employment in May 2012 with a 1-year contract




CORPORATE SERVICES OFFICER - FINANCE (PART TIME)
(1 year fixed-term contract)
Main Duties :

  • Process all official cash withdrawals and deposits with the local bank. 
  • Prepare calculation of payment of staff salaries, overtime payments, staff claims
  • Manage cash-flow by monitoring bank accounts, cash forecasting, monthly funding and bank reconciliation 
  • Account closing preparation and completion of all relevant reports 
  • Handle queries from supplies/staff, providing assistance for claims, charging codes etc. 
  • Provide support in other activities within the team, as required


Requirements:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in Finance/Accounts, preferably in a multicultural organisation 
  • A minimum of Diploma Degree in Finance or related field of study
  • Flexibility, resilient under pressure and decisive with a proven track record of delivering results to a high standard within tight deadlines
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong customer focus
  • Ability to work with people of different levels and backgrounds 
  • Strong English and Indonesian language skills, both written and spoken 
  • Be proficient in MS Office applications


This is a part-time position that requires you to work 3 days per week. Details will be further discussed during the interview.
